British bicycle takes Palma by storm
A bicycle designed by Richard Thorpe, a British design engineer with a 25-year career that has included employment with some of the world’s most prestigious names in motorsport, such as McLaren Cars, Bentley, Audi, Ferrari and Mercedes, is ready to take Palma by storm.
Gocycle is an electric fold up bicycle, designed to provide better city- mobility solutions.
During a press conference held yesterday at Palma Arena, to promote the first Cycling Meeting International Congress in Majorca on 6,7 and 8 February, several experts from different fields connected with the sport had the opportunity to try the soon to be commercialised bicycle. And the feed back was more than conclusive. It is set to be a success. Speed wise it can reach up to 25 kilometres per hour, although it can be adapted to different types of cycling. There is a possibility to make it faster but according to the promoters that would involve some changes including the need for number plates, something that right now is not on their priority.
With three gears, weighting 15 kg and easy to fold up, it’s light, practical and users can set up their target, speed and plan their journey via a smart phone app if they wish to do so. It can be used as a normal bicycle; which is exactly what will have to be done when the battery runs out. Promoters Francisco Sanchez and Jonathan Alvarez explained that the battery runs out after 60 to 65 km (37 to 40 miles). To recharge it takes up to 3 and half hours. The bicycle should be ready to be commercialised in a month’s time. The average price is around 3000 Euros, but the group’s target market will for now resume to hotels, rent-a-bike shops and the nautical world. Depending on the response of the public, who can try fro themselves the new Gocycle in person during the Cycling Congress next month, there are plans to make it more widely available.
